Short answer
The rumored November 1 launch time has passed, and OpenAI has still not released GPT-6.5. The date going around on X, November 1 at 10 a.m. San Francisco time, came from a website that X users tie to OpenAI's Tibo Sottiaux. We checked again after that time: OpenAI has made no announcement, its models page has no GPT-6.5, there is no API model ID, and the latest entry in its API changelog is GPT-6 Rosalind on October 30. The newest general-purpose OpenAI models are GPT-6 Astra (the flagship, released September 3), GPT-6.1 Sol (the mid tier, September 29), GPT-6.1 Terra (October 26) and GPT-6 Luna (the cheapest). When GPT-6.5 ships, it will appear on TeamoRouter's pricing page under OpenAI's own model ID; until then, gpt-6-astra and gpt-6.1-sol work in Codex with the setup below, and switching later is a one-line change.
No card at all? You can also top up with USDT, USDC or ETH: click Pay with crypto in the top-up dialog and send it from Binance, OKX or any wallet. The minimum is $5 and no browser extension is needed. Step by step: Pay for Claude and GPT APIs with crypto (USDT).
The GPT-6.5 rumors, checked
The opensi.lol countdown. On October 19, OpenAI's Tibo Sottiaux, who runs Codex, posted on X that he had bought a new domain and was "very excited for it", without naming it. Users soon matched it to opensi.lol, and on October 20 screenshots showed a hidden "6.5" in the page source next to a countdown to November 1, 10 a.m. San Francisco time. That is day 28, the last day, of the "28 days" in which Tibo promised a Codex upgrade every day. What we could check on October 21:
- The domain was registered on September 22, 2026. The archived page from September 23 calls it "an independent parody" and says the domain is for sale; the registration record was updated on October 15. That fits the domain changing hands shortly before Tibo's post.
- The current page is a single video, and its source has a comment tagging OpenAI's Greg Brockman, Tibo Sottiaux and two other accounts.
- The "6.5" from the screenshots is no longer in the page source.
After the countdown ran out. Once November 1, 10 a.m. San Francisco time had passed, opensi.lol still showed the same video and comment, with nothing new. OpenAI did not release GPT-6.5 and has not said when it will.
So the link to Tibo is plausible, but neither he nor OpenAI ever said the site was about GPT-6.5, and the rumored date has come and gone. Treat any GPT-6.5 release date as a rumor until OpenAI announces it.
The "Doug" codename. On September 7 an analyst on X predicted that OpenAI's next flagship would be called GPT-6.5 with the internal codename "Doug", then retracted it within a day: by their corrected reading, Doug is the base model behind GPT-6 Astra.
How far apart OpenAI's releases have been
| Release | Date |
|---|---|
| GPT-5 | August 7, 2025 |
| GPT-5.5 | April 23, 2026 |
| GPT-6 Astra | September 3, 2026 |
| GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna | late September 2026 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | September 29, 2026 |
| GPT-6.1 Terra | October 26, 2026 |
| GPT-6 Rosalind (life sciences only, approved organizations) | October 30, 2026 |
GPT-5.5 arrived about eight and a half months after GPT-5. In the GPT-6 generation OpenAI shipped a .1 update less than a month after the first model, so the old spacing is no guide. OpenAI has given no date for GPT-6.5.
Price: none published yet
OpenAI has not published GPT-6.5 pricing. For reference, here is the current GPT-6 lineup per 1 million tokens:
| Model | Model ID | OpenAI price (input / output) | TeamoRouter | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-6 Astra | gpt-6-astra |
$10 / $50 | about 20–30% of the OpenAI price | The hardest tasks |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | gpt-6.1-sol |
$2 / $10 | about 20–30% of the OpenAI price | Everyday coding and agent work |
| GPT-6.1 Terra | gpt-6.1-terra |
$1 / $5 | see the pricing page | Fast, cheaper work: images, computer use, writing |
| GPT-6 Luna | gpt-6-luna |
$0.10 / $0.50 | about half the OpenAI price | Bulk and simple tasks |
TeamoRouter prices change with supply; the current numbers are on the pricing page. The last ".5" release was priced above its base model (GPT-5.5 lists at $5 / $30, GPT-5 at $1.25 / $10), but that says nothing certain about GPT-6.5.
Use GPT-6 in Codex now
Put this in ~/.codex/config.toml and set your TeamoRouter key in OPENAI_API_KEY:
model_provider = "teamorouter"
model = "gpt-6.1-sol"
model_reasoning_effort = "medium"
[model_providers.teamorouter]
name = "TeamoRouter"
base_url = "https://api.agentapiai.com/v1"
env_key = "OPENAI_API_KEY"
wire_api = "responses"
Use gpt-6-astra instead for the hardest work, or switch inside a session with /model. When GPT-6.5 is released, change the model line to its ID; the key and the rest of the file stay the same. Step-by-step setup: Codex CLI guide.
Calling the API directly works the same way:
curl https://api.agentapiai.com/v1/responses \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"model": "gpt-6.1-sol", "input": "Write a Python function that checks whether a number is prime"}'
Full reference: API integration.
Paying for usage
No subscription: you top up a balance from $5 and pay only for the tokens you use, by card or with USDT, USDC or ETH from any exchange app (how to pay with crypto). The same key also works for Claude and Gemini. If OpenAI declined your card when you tried to buy API credits, see what to try when the OpenAI API declines your card or how to pay for the OpenAI API with USDT.
FAQ
Is GPT-6.5 out? No. The rumored launch time (November 1, 10 a.m. San Francisco time) has passed, and OpenAI has not released a model called GPT-6.5; it is not on OpenAI's models page or in its API changelog.
Did GPT-6.5 come out on November 1? No. The date came from the countdown on opensi.lol, which X users tie to Tibo Sottiaux's new domain and to the last day of his "28 days" of Codex upgrades. The time passed without a GPT-6.5 release, and OpenAI has not given a new date.
Will GPT-6.5 work in Codex through TeamoRouter? TeamoRouter lists OpenAI models under OpenAI's own IDs, so once it is on the pricing page, changing the model line in config.toml is enough.
What should I use until then? GPT-6 Astra for the hardest problems, GPT-6.1 Sol for everyday coding, GPT-6.1 Terra for fast, cheaper work, GPT-6 Luna for bulk work.
